Nova Scotia is sunny and warm!

Last night, we had what the children called a "party," and Joshua, especially, was very excited.  We found that we had a microwave and mini-fridge in our room so we went to a grocery store after dinner, and I let them buy what they wanted, with guidance (without guidance, Shelby and Joshua would have bought all candy and Anneliese wouldn't have looked at prices).  We ended up with a box of generic microwave popcorn, Twizzlers, Ritz Bits crackers, swiss rolls (for Randy), soda, and juice.  Later on, we played hearts then decided to watch a movie (on a laptop) instead of playing spoons.  We propped up the laptop on the end of one bed while the children and I cuddled (squeezed together) on the bed and Randy sat on the other bed.  They loved the time together and the fun food!

A hot game of hearts!
Then today we woke to sun and warmer tempuratures (70s!).  We decided to visit some small fishing villages.  Very scenic, so you will be treated to many photos! The most popular is Peggy's Cove so we started there.  Cute lighthouse and big rocks to climb on next to the ocean.  The landscape looks much like Scotland, so we were unsurprised to find that it was settled by Scots.  As I was walking across the rocks toward the lighthouse, I heard bagpiples and laughed because it just seemed so appropriate!  A man was down on the rocks playing the bagpipes with an open case next to him for change.  We spent several hours sitting on the rocks and watching the waves break against the rocks!  We also went to see the tiny gothic revival church.  An informational plaque mentioned that because of the bedrock, they cannot dig graves and have to bury their parishioners at another churchyard in the area.  One thing you wouldn't think of!

A typical cedar-shingled home in Peggy's Cove with lobster traps all over.

An inlet--note the black sand along the edge!

Breathtaking scenery

Loved this sign!  Made me laugh!

The waves against the rocks!

More waves against the rocks!

Yet more waves against the rocks!  (you wouldn't believe how many of these I have!)

Then we visited Providence Bay and Terrence Bay.  Much smaller, no tourists.  Lots of lobster traps everywhere, though!  Joshua and I investigated a few and figured out how they worked and then Joshua got to expain it to his sisters so we all learned.  Then we drove to the hotel in New Brunswick and found dinner.  No pool, so hearts may be on the menu tonight as well, though we ate the last of our snacks in the car today so no snacks!

Funny street sign in Providence Bay (the address on a sign for homemade rugs--17 The Lane!)

Can you believe all of these lobster traps in Terrence Bay?  There are about 15 rows behind this one!

Pituresque deserted house right on a point into the bay--great site for a house.

The view from the house

Weird rings growing on the rocks.  Oops--you can see my shadow at the bottom!
The hotels in PEI and Nova Scotia had an interesting thing--blue recycling tubs in the rooms.  And the one in Nova Scotia also had an organics bin in the breakfast room.  I loved it.  The public restrooms in Peggy's Cove even had composting toilets.   I loved all the ways to lessen our footprint and improve our earth.

Shelby--what a strong girl!

Anneliese is stuck in the phone booth--or is it a Tardis?

Joshua with some lobster traps.  He is very offended that the poor lobsters are boiled alive!

Tomorrow we are back to the States--Maine to be exact.
